The numbers between are indeed very important.
Each number is in the middle of a block of 4.
Now what can you do with 1-9 seemingly in a random order?

I got stuck on this puzzle 2 years ago, and now I'm trying to finish what I started. So if anyone has a massive hint for me I'd be REALLY grateful!
